Journal topic: How to cope when everything is overwhelming

Usually when life is overwhelming and we cant seem to grasp all the stress we are put under we punch a pillow, yell, scream, cry, get angry, blow off steam with physical activity with feel good endorphin's, now that is what normal level-headed people do. People who have a self-destructive brain induce their emotional pain into a behavior that expresses our pain on the inside while inflicting pain on the outside because that obviously makes sense right? Well we think it's the perfect solution to "fix" the problem but it took me three years and counting with an eating disorder to realize all were doing is patching over the emotional wound with physical pain, as most people would explain it putting a band-aid over it and ignoring the problem because it's healed right? Wrong.

I specifically remember last year i don't remember what it was but it was kindof like learning about different things that affect students in our school (ex. abuse, self-harm, eating disorders etc.) I was in the room "How to control your anger" AKA anger management. I don't think i have anger issues but my family might say differently. Anyway there was this girl in my class who got asked the question "what do you do when you're angry?" she said running and everyone else said something "normal" and the first thing that came to my mind was using one of the five self-destructive behaviors i use eating disorder and cutting. I realized through that 30-45 minute class that wow this is what normal people do?!

It is important though to find a healthy coping method that doesn't involve self-inflicted pain because does that really solve anything?

My favorite way to cope with stress :)
