Journal topic: Why do we hold onto things for so long?

There is no definite reason why we hold onto things as if we are hoarders whether it be emotionally or physically, materialistic or otherwise we always find a way to keep those things close to us and i will explain those possible reasons later. Letting go is hard no matter who you are or how young, you are never really prepared for the letting go. When you were five you might've held onto a balloon as tight as you could because you didn't want it to blow away or scared to sleep in your big girl bed on a stormy night. When you're older, the fear of letting go is more complex and is more realistic when you're older because you've experienced more of life and you know right from wrong. There could be many factors why you are afraid to let go something you've had for a long time such as: sentimental value, comfort, identity, what will happen..., who will i be... etc. There isn't anything easy about mentally as a person and it could teach you a number of lessons in the process. The reasons are pretty self-explanatory but some of them are not as clear... I will write another post about this because i don't want this to get too long where everyone will give up reading the whole thing :). It may be scary but it's imperative to let go of things that have been holding you back out of fear of what will happen. Once you do, you will find a new sense of freedom and sense of self and i myself even know that.
